Thanksgiving came early this year as CTWorks launched the holiday season with a free holiday meal for their clients.
On Tuesday November 20, the lobby of the CTWorks Career Center at 2 Lafayette Square in Bridgeport was filled with hungry Jobseekers and CTWorks Clients from around the region eager to enjoy the food prepared by Bullard-Havens Technical High School culinary students.
The menu included all the holiday favorites: mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, corn, sweet potatoes, salad, green beans, roll pie and of course, turkey. The meal was served by Congressman Jim Himes, Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch and State Representative Andres Ayala along with Career Resources staff and Board Members.
Although the line snaked through the Career Center and down the hall, over a dozen of volunteers from Career Resources, Inc., CTWorks, the Department of Labor, the Bridgeport Police Department, the Bridgeport Fire Department and the Workplace made sure the more than 175 guests got a full meal.
Reverend James Cook said the prayer over the meal and the visiting dignitaries took the opportunity to address the guests, celebrate the day and the good work of CTWorks and Career Resources, Inc.
“This is my favorite stop during the holidays,” said Representative Ayala. “I know things are still difficult and we still face challenges. Together we face them, together we will overcome them.”
“We know how hard you work all year to make life better for yourself and your family,” Career Resources, Inc. Executive Director Scott Wilderman. “This is our way of saying thanks.”
