The recession may officially be over, but the economy is changing, and many people still struggle to find work as employers demand different skills in new fields.
Responding to that challenge — with top-notch facilities, connections to employers, and highly trained and caring staff – -is the focus of the new American Job Center (AJC), celebrating its grand opening today in Stamford.
Career Resources Inc. President/CEO Scott Wilderman joined Stamford Mayor David Martin, state Senator Carlo Leone, The WorkPlace President/CEO Joseph Carbone and other dignitaries at the new AJC office in Franklin Commons. The new location has twice as much space as the former offices, and is carefully located in the Commons, owned and operated by Inspirica Inc.
“We have 12 other organizations here, all nonprofits serving the community,” said Inspirica Executive Director Jason Shaplen, “so when Joe and Scott called, it was a perfect fit to create a true one stop experience.
“Inspirica serves the homeless, and the fact is that the face of homelessness is changing,” he added. “Many homeless people are working part time or are looking for work. We need the American Job Center services.”
WorkPlace President/CEO Joseph Carbone said the new center will train people to succeed in an increasingly competitive job market. He lauded Career Resources Inc., which operates the AJC, and CRI President/CEO Scott K. Wilderman.
“Scott has created a kind of vibrancy in the system that I am really proud of,” said Carbone. “He does what he does with competence and with heart. People come here and are greeted as if they are family, and they leave with dignity and confidence.”
“At Career Resources, we are continually learning, and we go beyond the call,” Wilderman said. “We are constantly improving ourselves and trying to become a better organization. We have already placed more than 200 people in jobs in Stamford and will keep working with employers and jobseekers to meet the needs of the community.”
The American Job Center is located at 141 Franklin Street, 2nd floor, and offers a computer lab, job leads, the National Career Readiness Certificate and its related training and tutorial system, and personal help with identifying in-demand jobs and available training.
