Career Resources Inc. was well represented at this week’s Live United Celebration, with longtime Board Member Curtis O. Law receiving the Norman Leeds Award, and Director of Strategic Relations Rosa J. Correa receiving an award presented by CRI President/CEO Scott K. Wilderman.
Twenty-one honorees received awards that were drawn by third grade students at the Geraldine Johnson School of Hope in Bridgeport, who were asked to draw what makes them happy. Distinguished speakers who know the award winners provided a warm and inspirational introduction that brought joy, tears and laughter to those in the audience.
Curt, who is the Executive Director of the Norwalk Housing Authority, was honored for Excellence in Furthering United Way’s Family Financial Stability Work. Harry Carey of AT&T spoke about his experience with Curtis in working on a college scholarship program that began with two college scholarships and $5,000 in 1999. The Norwalk Housing Foundation College Scholarship Program has grown and last year provided 35 college scholarships, awarding over $176,750 in college support and computers to public housing residents, often the first in their families to attend college.
Presenting the award to Rosa, Scott spoke passionately about the critical role she has played in the community for decades. Rosa, has among so many other accomplishments, been awarded the Distinguished Leadership Award from the National Association for Community Leadership in 1995, the Papal Medal Pro Ecclesia Pontifice from Pope John Paul II, the State of Connecticut Latino and Puerto Rican Affairs (LRPAC) Latina Citizen of the Year in 1998, the CT Post Woman of the Year award in 1999, ARC – The Bigelow Humanitarian Award in 2007, Rotarian of the Year in 2009, The Bridgeport Guardians Community Achievement Award, 2010 Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Bridgeport Lifetime Achievement Award, 2012 State of Connecticut Latino Puerto Rican Affairs Commission (LPRAC) Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as the Boy Scouts of America – CT Yankee Council 2013 Leadership Award.
