STRIVE Youth Initiative Donates Ice Cream to Community
HARTFORD — STRIVE Youth have decided to donate a portion of their earnings to the community as part of National Night Out, August 5, from 5 – 6 pm at Sigourney Square Park.
The youth have been working to earn the money, create flyers about the event and inform the community. The youth have also been cleaning the park weekly.
“The kids came up with this idea, thinking it would make the community feel good,” said STRIVE Youth Case Manager Samariya Smith. “They also said they wished someone would have done it for them.”
STRIVE’s Youth Initiative serves youth aged 14 to 24 with STRIVE training, internships, community service projects and mentoring.
Media coverage is invited, but youth may not be identified by last name, and must be quoted or referred to by first name only.
National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” began in 1984 as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. NATW’s National Night Out program culminates annually on the first Tuesday of August. That first year, 2.5 million Americans took part across 400 communities in 23 states. National Night Out now involves over 37.8 million people and 16,124 communities from all fifty states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.
